‘Clickbait’ by L.C. North

Today is my spot on ‘Clickbait’ blog tour, organised by Anne Cater of Random Things Tours.

You can read the book’s synopsis, my review, and author’s bio below.

Synopsis

‘We’re not famous anymore. We’re notorious.’

For over a decade, the Lancasters were celebrity royalty, with millions tuning in every week to watch their reality show, Living with the Lancasters.

But then an old video emerges of one of their legendary parties. Suddenly, they’re in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons: witnesses swore they’d seen missing teenager Bradley Wilcox leaving the Lancaster family home on the night of the party, but the video tells a different story.

Now true crime investigator and YouTuber Tom Isaac is on the case. He’s determined to find out what really happened to Bradley – he just needs to read between the Lancasters’ lies . . .

Because when the cameras are always rolling, it won’t be long until someone cracks.

My Review

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5/5

Meet the Lancasters, the most famous family in Britain. Their reality TV show Living with the Lancasters was first aired in 2007, and since then, the family has been going from strength to strength.

Taylor Lancaster, the eldest daughter who had a number one hit singe, and now has her own clothing range.

India Lancaster, the baby of the family and cleverest of them all, now a famous model.

Locke Lancaster, the middle child and the one that hasn’t achieved as much as his siblings. However, he has been busy working behind the scenes, editing the family show for years.

Finally, Lynn Lancaster, the mother, the drive and the force behind the show and the family. She’s the one that has been keeping them going after the death of their father, famous Man Utd footballer, Ed Lancaster.

To commemorate twenty years since his father’s death, Locke decides to publish an unseen before home movie. Apparently, Ed was obsessed with home-made movies and Locke chooses a clip of his father dancing during his 40th birthday party.

However, the clip goes viral, as in the background, a teenager Bradley Wilcox is seen arguing with Lynn Lancaster.

Bradley Wilcox hasn’t been seen since Ed’s 40th birthday party. He’s been missing ever since…

The Lancasters always insisted that Bradley left their home that night, but Bradley’s sister Cassie always said that they were lying.

She gets in touch with Tom Isaac, a podcaster and YouTube investigative journalist with his own show Tom Isaac Investigates. When he begins his investigation, he soon realises that the Lancasters know way more than they are letting on…

I loved this book! I read in two days, as I became so engrossed in the plot and the characters.

I didn’t like the Lancasters, they were all up for themselves and thought that the world revolved around them. I felt sorry for Tom, as I had a feeling that he was being played – he was quite sweet and innocent in that regard.

I liked the format of the book: it’s mainly transcripts of Tom’s show and interviews he conducted, emails between Tom and various other people, comments from his viewers, and extracts from home videos.

There are a couple of twists along the way, too.

I definitely recommend this book.

Many thanks to Transworld Books for the e-ARC and to Anne Cater for my spot on the tour.
